Good luck!
Initial guess would be that it's programmed to count on (hour * .2) for simplicity and speed.

anybody else think War Census of Orr is the most uncreative anagram ever written? Atleast it makes sense though....

I believe they used increments of 12 because they are adding 8 more player slots, making a total of 12. *crosses fingers*.

I'm gonna take a stab at the reason being due to them using Decimal Time.

Its Official:

ArenaNet Releases their Guild Wars Update: Sorrow’s Furnace to Launch September 7th

New Explorable Areas Available Free to All Guild Wars Players

Bellevue, Wa. (August 29, 2005) -- ArenaNet®, creators of the #1 selling competitive online roleplaying game, Guild Wars®, announces the release of the much-anticipated Guild Wars update: Sorrow’s Furnace. To be released on September 7, 2005, the update will be available free to all Guild Wars account holders and will stream to them live at game log-in.

Sorrow's Furnace offers two large, explorable regions: Grenth's Footprint and Sorrow's Furnace. These regions will provide exciting new high-level content to Guild Wars players, and will offer new quests, new monsters, new items, and more. For characters who have completed their ascension in Guild Wars, these areas will provide new opportunities for exploration and reward.

Guild Wars is a competitive online roleplaying game that rewards player skill more than time played. Players explore a rich fantasy game world, acquire skills, build personalized characters and compete in head-to-head guild battles with players from around the world.

In addition, DirectSong will simultaneously release new music for Sorrow’s Furnace. DirectSong, the world's first official music expansion service, will offer a Sorrow's Furnace music Mini-Pak free of charge to all Guild Wars account holders who register at their website: www.directsong.com. The Mini-Pak also features a preview of Guild Wars Battle Pak 1, the first full music upgrade announced for Guild Wars, available end of September.

Many games do their major updates on tuesday because it's the slower day of the week in term of quantity of players connected. It helps spread update servers load.
Not only that, but a lot of kiddies have their first day of school then

Incidently:

12 in binary is 1100b (the time that the release will be made).

In a 24 hour time period, there are 120 intervals of 12.

There are 86,400 seconds in a day. Divide this by twelve and you get 7200 (1/12 of the day). Divide this by twelve and you get 600 (1/144 of a day). Divide this by twelve and you get 50 (1/1728 of a day). Just FYI.

12 in hexadecimal is 0xC. The amount of increments of 12 minutes in a 24 hour period (1440 minutes) is 0x78. In binary, this is 1111000b. Just FYI.

The messages appeared 5 times an hour. If you are devilish and have a unix box (or are clever with windows "wininet.dll" et al) to read the incoming/outgoing packets from the server<->client (i.e., A.Net to your computer), then all of this will make perfect sense to you.

Something else already happens every twelve minutes with A.Net, so it is convienent to simply have the server send you friendly messages when it does *something*. I'll leave it to you to figure out WHAT that something is.

[I do not guarantee the accuracy of some of the math in my post, as it is early and my brain is not yet functional enough to synthesize certain data].

Love,

Great news on the update! However, I wonder how the servers are gonna cope on 7th September with everyone streaming large amounts of data? Guess we'll find out soon enough...

Worn farce sours
Coarsen Furrows
OCS Nerfs our Wars

(to name but a few...)

Well done all the guys who worked out the odd messages! That was a very cool addition from Anet!
